Professional Training

American Diabetes Association Continuous Quality Improvement Workshop Series

2025 | VIRTUAL

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) is a national nonprofit organization that supports diabetes research, advocacy and professional education. ADA also recognizes DSMES services that meet the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support.

PROFESSIONAL WORK BY NADR FOUNDER KELLEY MOULTRY

Supporting DSMES Programs Through Continuous Quality Improvement

Before establishing NADR's current training and workforce development work, Kelley Moultry, MPH, MCHES, facilitated a continuous quality improvement workshop series with the American Diabetes Association in 2025.

Over the course of six months, Moultry facilitated six cohorts of DSMES professionals, with training focused on helping participants understand and apply continuous quality improvement within their own programs.

The workshops addressed quality improvement within the context of the National Standards for DSMES, while giving participants dedicated time to think through the systems, processes and challenges within their individual programs.

AN INTERACTIVE APPROACH TO QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

The workshops were designed to move beyond presentation-based learning. Each cohort combined instruction with facilitated small-group activities that gave participants an opportunity to discuss their own CQI projects, examine challenges they were encountering and work through how quality improvement concepts could be applied within their programs.

During breakout sessions, participants discussed their current approaches, compared workflows with peers and considered how they could strengthen their CQI processes. The smaller group setting created space for participants to ask questions specific to their programs while learning from the experiences of other DSMES professionals.

This combination of instruction, peer discussion and applied work allowed participants to engage with CQI as an operational process rather than simply a requirement to complete.

Bringing Experience Into Practice

The 2025 workshop series reflects the professional experience Kelley Moultry brings to her leadership of NADR and its work with DSMES programs.

Across six cohorts over six months, Moultry worked directly with DSMES professionals as they examined their own CQI projects, program challenges and workflows. The experience provided continued insight into the practical challenges programs face when translating quality requirements into day-to-day operations.
That experience is reflected in NADR's approach to professional learning today. Training creates space for participants to apply concepts to their own programs, work through real operational challenges and learn from the experiences of their peers.

NADR continues to bring this practical approach to training in continuous quality improvement, documentation, accreditation readiness, workforce development and program sustainability.
